Three Can’t Miss September Events in Atlanta, GA
The fall is a great time to travel across the state or even locally. Here are three of the absolutely can’t-miss events that will be happening in Atlanta this September.
19th Annual Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival
Over the long Labor Day weekend, pack a picnic lunch and bring the kids to the local hot air balloon experience at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain. On Friday night, you can check out the Balloon Glow, and then stay all weekend long to watch the colorful balloons soar into the air. You’ll love how family friendly the environment is, and you’ll get to listen to great live music and have fun both along the beach and in the Kids Zone. There’s stuff for the big kids, too, like a car show, and other entertainment on offer. The Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival will take place September 1-3. Admission for the weekend is $30; $25 for seniors.
AJC Decatur Book Festival
Perhaps a better way of going about Labor Day activities with the family is to divide up the weekend into visiting various events. This can ensure that, along with plenty of fun, your kids are also learning from a variety of experiences. One way to accomplish this is to bring your teenagers to the independent book festival in Decatur. The AJC Decatur Book Festival is the largest independent book festival in the entire country, and it’s one of the five biggest in the world. You’ll enjoy music, parades, panels with best-selling authors, poetry competitions, readers, talks, signings, and a kids area filled with fun. You can enjoy the fun starting on Friday, Sept. 1st at 5 p.m. with a keynote speech from actor and children’s book author Henry Winkler. The full schedule is posted online.
House in the Park
Are you seeking an event this September that’s slightly more innovative, or different perhaps? If so, then you’ll be in the right place at the House in the Park. During this experience, you will challenge your senses to interpret the sound of music in a new and impressive way. Technical house music is celebrated and shared in this community-style party environment where all types of people are welcome, including people of different ages and with varying occupations. The event will be significant, with approximately 15,000 people expected to join in at the Grant Park venue and dance the days away. House in the Park will take place at 840 Cherokee Ave. Southeast in Atlanta on September 3rd. Entry is free or by donation.
It’s too bad that summer will be coming to an end, but you can make the most of the lovely fall weather by joining in on these community events that occur across Atlanta. You’ll love the book festival, music show, and hot air balloon show. These venues offer fun for the whole family. Plan a stopover at one of these events if you’re planning to be in Atlanta during the Labor Day weekend.
